WASHINGTON D.C. -- The EPA may have a plan they hope will keep the Asian Carp out of the Great Lakes without shutting down shipping between the Mississippi and the big lakes. It may be the focus of this afternoon’s Carp Summit at the White House.

Governor’s Granholm of Michigan and Doyle of Wisconsin have confirmed, so has Jim Doyle of Illinois. They will huddle with Nancy Sutley, chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality, and officials from the EPA, Interior, the Army Corp of Engineers and the Coast Guard. Today’s meeting will be closed.

The EPA has scheduled a public meeting for Friday in Chicago, on behalf of the Asian Carp Regional Coordinating Committee, to take public comments and suggestions on carp control efforts. It will be webcast from 3 to 6PM Friday afternoon.
