KALAMAZOO -- A fire in the 600 block of Dwight in Kalamazoo during the mid-day yesterday damaged the upper stories of a home. The first officers on the scene saw smoke coming from the building and got all the occupants out of the home. It took them about 20 minutes to knock down the flames, they are looking for a cause. No damage estimate has been released yet.
A bathroom fan caused an apartment fire Monday morning in Paw Paw. The fire happened at a small apartment complex in the 34000 block of Vaux Hill Drive. A mother and her 4-year-old daughter suffered from smoke inhalation, but no one else was hurt.
Paw Paw Fire Chief Rick Try says the mother and daughter are doing fine now. The fire occurred at around 1:45 a.m. Everyone in the apartment building was evacuated. By 3 a.m. all of the building's residents, except for those from where the fire started, were able to go back inside.
