New Law For State Doctors

EAST GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO) -- Remember the Dirty Dermatologist? He has now inspired a new law. Dr. Robert Stokes is doing ten years in prison for insurance fraud. One of the allegations made against him by staff was that he would sterilize and reuse needles, sutures and other medical equipment that was meant to be disposable.

The unusual practice was not approved by medical standards, but there was no law against it. That could change soon. A law that would make the practice a 10 year felony has been approved and now sits on the Governor’s desk. Five Thousand patients were notified they might have been exposed to Hepatitis or HIV, but mass testing failed to find any proof that anyone was infected.
